Abstract:
At the outlet of Luciao Valley in Jing′an County, Jiangxi Province, there is a distinct accumulation zone with loose deposits on both sides of the valley, which may cause debris flow and channel blockage under heavy rainfall conditions. To analyze the possibility of a debris flow occurring, Massflow software was employed, and the high-precision topographic data and an improved MacCormack-TVD numerical algorithm was adopted to simulate flow velocities and impact ranges under different rainfall frequencies. The results indicated that under 10%, 5%, 2%, and 1% rainfall frequencies, the final flow velocities of the debris flow at 1, 800 seconds were 2.2 m/s, 2.4 m/s, 3.1 m/s and 3.3 m/s, respectively, with corresponding inundation widths of 21 m, 22 m, 66 m, and 92 m. Recommended mitigation measures includes compaction and slope reinforcement to stabilize loose deposits, construction of drainage channels, and regular desilting of solid materials within the channels to ensure unobstructed flow.
